With Deepest Sympathy

On December 12, 2011, one of our most beloved members, Vedra McElfresh, passed away. Vedra was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. To Mac and his family, may knowing you're
in the hearts and thoughts of others help you and yours
through this time of sorrow.

Memorial Services will be held in the near future. A date and time will be posted here.

Best Wishes

Our Best Wishes for a speedy recovery to two of our very good friends, Theressa Crowley & Pearledna Shropshire, who have both experienced recent stays in the hospital .

PAA Meetings & Workshops

Our meetings will now be held on the fourth (4th) Saturday of the month, at 10 a.m., at the Santa Fe Depot. That means, no more Friday night meetings! Meetings and workshops, or other painting get-togethers, when they are scheduled, will both be on the same day. Much simpler!

So, just to make sure you have it right, here it is in plain English: This month’s meeting is on Saturday, September 24, at 10 a.m., at the Santa Fe Depot.

Board Meetings
Board Meetings held first Wednesday of every month, 10 a.m. at the Art Center Gallery, 152 N. Main Street, Porterville. Members are welcome.

PAA Officers:

From the President
Dear Fellow Artists:

I just returned from a month in China , where I had a chance to see six major art shows, each supporting a different genre. Art and art exploration is alive and well on the other side of the planet!! Watching artists work, and navigate through their medium is a fascinating thing…and there is always something new to be tried. One group mined minerals, refined them, and painted with them…some on paper, and some on can-vas. It reminded me of the mineral colors in Roussillon , France …but such a different application! Other shows supported Chinese Calligraphy, Landscape painting, and Bird and Flower painting. My classes con-sisted of three weeks of intensive study of these three subjects. Thank heavens for some free time in Hong Kong to explore the city and wind down from all the study. I know you are all looking forward to the up-coming Holidays, and I wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving, and time to work with and explore your own area of art exploration.

Sincerely,
Joy Harvey

PAA Workshop January 28

Jan Harris will be the featured artist at our next meeting on Saturday, January 28, 10 a.m., at the Santa Fe Depot. After our normally short meeting, Jan will demonstrate the painting of Pet Portraits in pastel. She has made the painting of animals one of her most popular subjects through her lifelike portrayal of the family pet. It’s universal. Everybody either has pets, has had pets, or would like to have pets, and Jan’s Pet Portraits are remarkable studies. The demo will cost $5 for non-members.

At 1 p.m, we will have an all-media paint-in at the depot (for free), and Jan told me that people can paint whatever they like (it doesn't have to be pet portraits).  She said she would be there for the paint-in, working on the demo piece she started at the meeting, and would be available to help people if they needed it.  She emphasized, though, that this is not a workshop.

Please participate! You will be glad you did!

SHOWS AT THE ART CENTER
There has been a change in the dates for pick-up of work from our Open Show, currently on display in the gallery, and receiving of entries for our Fall Display.

Members, please bring your work for our seasonal Fall show to the gallery on October 7 & 8, Friday & Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and pick up your work from the Open Show. If you know any of those non-members who participated in the Open Show, please let them know about the change in dates, as well. We want to make sure everyone picks up their work on time and avoids storage fees.
